Our Story - About our journey
Recently our pastor at Valley Pentecostal Church made a comment about how every pastor has a favorite message. It is a message that God has placed on their hearts for His people. I must say that I can totally relate. For those who know me, they would tell you that the one thing I really like to talk about is the fact that God has a plan and a purpose for everyone. As I have reflected on this truth, I have come to the realization that I must live out the calling of God on my own life. That is where this desire has come from, and so I have begun to do what I can to help others.Journey to the Promise Ministries has begun with a simple desire: to help believers move from hearing God’s call to walking in His promises. Through teaching, prayer, and practical guidance, we walk alongside you as you discover your purpose, grow in faith, and step boldly into the destiny God has prepared for you.
About Us | Journey to the Promise Ministries

Watch our vision message: Finding your path in the Promise.

My name is Philip Hovi, people who know me just call me Phil. I was raised in a Christian home and attended a christian school for much of my life. I first gave my heart to Christ at 6 years old. When I was young I used to say that I was going to be a missionary, but after my brother died when I was just 11 years old, I allowed the hurt to make me angry with God.

At the age of 17 I rededicated my life to Christ and shortly after felt the call to share God's word with others. It was around this time that I first became involved with ministry as a Sunday School teacher. Over the next 25 years I was deeply involved with my church and community. I did everything I could to share with others the good news of Jesus. I was heavily involved with my local church and also worked in places like our local hospital Chaplin services, street mission, retirment home services, board of a number of charitable organizations, I even was interm youth leader and a youth pastor for a short time at a small local church.Â

I also raised a family of four children who have all grown up and now are busy working and pursing their own dreams. Part ot that included coaching for nearly 15 years as being a part of my children's life was very improtant to me Â

I had always desired to be in full time ministry and after years of pursuing that dream. I finally becams the pastor of a small church in Little Current, Ontario called Gateway to Life Church. I was a credentialed minister ans as with everything I do I poured my heart into that community and did my best to build a small church. The youth group and the children's misnistries flourished as we had close to 30 kids and 10-15 youth attend the weekly meetings, but the congregation itself remained small and many key people passed away or moved. This resulted in a challenging time for the church financially. Then as we were exploring ways to sustain the church, the COVID pandemic came and during the next five months events took place that ultimately resulted in me leaving the church and my wife choosing to leave as well. As a result I struggled with how does a man who is divorced continue in ministry. It felt like my world had caved in all the things that were important to me besides God had disappeared. I am still not sure how to proceed with ministry as I believe a leader need to be faithful with their own family. As a result I do not currently have credentials, but the words that God has given me for the kingdom are like fire shut up in my bones and I can't keep silent. I may not know how to proceed, but I have to have someway to share. This wesite and ministry are designed to let me pour out what God has poureed in. I hope that in some way the things that I share encourage you.I know that God has a plan for eery life, mine included and that the devil will do everything he can to try and steal and destroy the plans of God. My prayer is this that you will find God's plan for your life and live in the blessings God has for you.
